Matt Damon in the film Elysium |
Comic Con here in San Diego has come and gone (and thankfully, so has all of that traffic)! Unfortunately, it does not look like Diego attended the Comic Con panel for Elysium this year, but it's exciting to hear more about this upcoming sci-fi flick.
Comic-Con 2012: Elysium Plot Details Have Emerged!
After months of wondering just what the hell will be happening in Neill Blomkamp's upcoming feature film Elysium, finally we have some answers.
The film stars Sharlto Copley, Jodie Foster, Diego Luna, Matt Damon,
Wagner Moura, Alice Braga and William Fichtner. This upcoming sci-fi
thriller tells the tale of what happens when a battle ensues between
aliens and humans for the right to colonize another planet.
Look for Elysium in theatres on March 1st, 2013.
Synopsis
In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who
live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest,
who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Delacourt (Jodie
Foster) will stop at nothing to preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the
citizens of Elysium – but that doesn’t stop the people of Earth from
trying to get in by any means they can. Max (Matt Damon) agrees to take
on a life-threatening mission, one that could bring equality to these
polarized worlds.

If you were a fan of Neill Blomkamp‘s District 9, your expectations for his follow-up, Elysium, might be particularly high. Those expectations are going to be shattered. The film stars Matt Damon
as a blue-collar worker in a post apocalyptic future who is given five
days to live. His only option to stay alive is get to Elysium, a space
station utopia for the super-rich, run by Jodie Foster. Obviously, they don’t want him there and things get a little awesome.
Blomkamp presented the first footage from the film in Hall H of San Diego Comic-Con 2012 on Friday. ”I can now die a happy man having seen footage from Elysium. Think District 9 on an intergalactic scale. Pure wow” is what I tweeted. Russ said “Elysium
footage looks like the real continuation of the Paul Verhoeven sci-fi
approach. Matt Damon looks wild. It all looks nuts.” And Peter simply
said “Elysium footage wins Comic-Con 2012 (thus far).”

thanks for the extra details! I'm excited for this movie. District 9 was so unique and wild - I can't wait for this one!
I can't imagine what it was like in SanDiego! It seems it was a celebrity fest practically.
Do you know who was on the Elysium panel if Diego wasn't there?
Thanks for the info, Heat!
Cassie, I think Matt Damon, Jodie Foster and the director were the only ones who attended the Comic Con.
Kisses!
ooh ok! interesting. Diego is good at promoting his films I'm sure he'll promote this one when it officially comes out. I hope his role is bigger than the one in Contraband though! lol. :)
Cris, you're correct. It was Matt Damon, Jodie Foster and the director at Comic Con.
